Terrorism is not a new threat in Southeast Asia. Notwithstanding the pandemic, major powers rivalries, and the region's political situation, terrorism remains a complex issue that requires critical attention. Recognizing the growing threat of these group in Southeast Asia, Asia-Europe Institute, University of Malaya (AEI, UM) propose to have two days conference in January 2023 at the AEI, UM on the topic which will focus on Terrorist and Insurgent Groups in Southeast Asia: Trends and Responses.

This project which is under the guidance of Dr. Rahul Mishra will seek to meet the following objectives:

  1. To disseminate regional updates on terrorist and insurgent groups trends and responses in Southeast Asia; 
  2. To serve as a platform for policymakers, security experts, academics, and researchers to exchange ideas and share of information about the region's current terrorism and violent extremism threats; and
  3. To analyse and explore future strategies in addressing the terrorist threats
