The talk will focus on four distinct waves of global jihad seen since the Soviet invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and will end with a discussion of the theory of ‘movements of rage’ and to what degree the waves of global jihad are comparable to other violent and nihilistic movements over the past century.
The workshop is part of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence grant awarded by the Erasmus+ Programme in 2017 to the Asia-Europe Institute. Dr. Paul Gillespie who is an expert instructor in the field of comparative regionalism from University College Dublin will share his perspective.
